Meet the unexpected pieces

The bishop

Moves diagonally. Freezes adjacent enemies, even while frozen itself. Remove the bishop to release its hold.

The giraffe

Moves like a knight. Can also capture the first enemy straight ahead without moving. Pieces block its reach.

The elephant

Jumps to any square up to two squares away in either direction. It can step over other pieces.

Pawns, queens and kings follow their usual rules, except there is no en passant. Check and checkmate apply. Frozen pieces cannot move or give check. Repetition and fifty-move draws are claimed automatically.
